On 20 October, people around the world came together for International Mastocytosis & Mast Cell Diseases Awareness Day, united under the theme “Be informed, Be connected.” The campaign brought patients, carers, medical professionals and advocates together to raise understanding, reduce isolation and support vital research into mast cell diseases globally.
This year’s campaign was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Blueprint Medicines (Platinum Sponsor) and Cogent Biosciences (Gold Sponsor), whose donations were received by The Australasian Mastocytosis Society (TAMS) to fund the international awareness activities.
TAMS proudly participated in this global initiative both as a member of the International Awareness Day Committee and through the leadership of our Vice Chair, Kristin Sinclair, who co-coordinates the International Awareness Day Committee with founding Awareness Day coordinator Mercedes Martin from La Asociación Española de Mastocitosis y Enfermedades Relacionadas.
Together with our fellow committee members and our international content partner, RARE Revolution Magazine, we delivered a multilingual global campaign that included:
- A new 2025 theme and theme logo, translated into nine languages
- Patient and carer fact sheets available in nine languages
- An international patient survey, with more than 1,000 participants and infographics available in 9 languages
- A series of social media resources inviting people around the world to share their stories using the hashtag #LifeWithMastCellDisease
Global teamwork in action
This campaign was the result of months of collaboration across countries and time zones. Our heartfelt thanks go to the International Awareness Day Committee, especially Mercedes from Spain and Jess from the United Kingdom, as well as the support of TAMS’ Jess and Jack, along with many other dedicated volunteers and advocates who worked tirelessly behind the scenes for their own organisation campaigns.
A special thank you also to RARE Revolution Magazine for their creativity, insight and support in bringing patient stories and survey findings to life across multiple languages and platforms. Thank you to Adaptis for developing our new website in such a short span of time! It has really elevated Awareness Day.
Raising global awareness together
The 2025 campaign reminded us that while mast cell diseases are rare, our community is not alone. Every shared story, every translated fact sheet, and every landmark that lit up purple helped amplify the message that awareness leads to connection, and connection leads to hope.
Thank you to everyone who supported, shared, or participated in this year’s campaign. Together, we are better informed, more connected, and stronger than ever.
